(Varón, 2023) This small cityscape painting captures a vibrant urban skyline along a river, flanked by lush vegetation on its banks. While traveling to Chicago, Illinois, and having lived in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts, I noticed a striking pattern: many cities are built along rivers, creating a beautiful harmony between urban architecture and natural waterways. Personally, I have always chosen to live near water, drawn to its serenity and life-giving presence.
In this work, the city, sky, and foreground are rendered with a carefully structured grid pattern, while the river and riverbanks are depicted with straight, deliberate lines, visually dividing the foreground from the skyline. This piece is a thoughtful exploration of urban landscapes, the intersection of nature and city life, and the geometry of structured space.
