(Varón, 2020) “Pharaoh” is a needlepoint piece that blends playful geometric design with deep ancestral memory. It reflects the story of my Egyptian ancestors, who were enslaved under the Pharaoh and bravely resisted in their pursuit of freedom. That history continues into modern times, when my mother’s family was forced out of Egypt because of their culture, faith, and foreign roots.
